With the rise of "Pokèmon GO", a lot of old fans jumped back in the years of their youth... and so I did, in my own way!

What would Pokèmon look like in the real world? I've decided to find the answer re-designing my favourite Pokèmon, the poisonous Koffing: a spherical levitating creature emanating disgusting gases and toxic substances. Since such a creature doesn't exist in the real world and given that its only representation is exclusively in a detail-less cartoony style, I had no other choice but to use the animal world as reference for its organic tissues.

Given his infamous habit to wonder around swamps and garbage dumps, the first adjective associated with this monster is 'vicious', a word that led me to imagine its skin as swelling and humid similar to frogs and toads. Most of these details and smoke cavities have been applied through Zbrush onto a basic model in 3DSmax.

In the absence of hands or paws that could have prevented the mess caused by the handling of food, this creature has been portrayed as a stained and bumpy ball with its mouth dribbling like a dog forming plenty of toxic liquid splashes, which have been applied partly through textures and modelling.
Still on about its mouth, considering the kind of diet that this scavenger follows, his teeth should be more similar to an omnivorous teeth (and indeed even in the cartoon it's possible to notice his two fangs)... but a carnivorous teeth set would have changed the mood completely, so I've used an Angler's teeth set as reference.

Also the big eyes have an important role in deciding the look of this interpretation; after a few tests using human, ram, frog and snake irises, I've opted for a cat’s iris. Eventually, the subject was lit and composited in Photoshop.
